orthosomnia

tracking your sleep
keeps you awake.

orthosomnia is the anxious pursuit of perfect sleep data. sleep researchers coined the term in 2017 after meeting patients who slept badly because of their trackers – checking the score first thing every morning, lying in bed longer to improve it, doubting their own body when the number disagreed with how they felt. the tracker was supposed to help. instead, it became the thing they worried about.

if you recognise yourself in that, this page is for you. five things we believe – and the reason luna exists.

I

take control of what you can.

you cannot control how deep you sleep, how often you wake, or what your heart does at 3 am. nobody can. what you can control are two moments a day: when you turn off the light, and when you get up. so those are the only two things worth writing down. everything else is weather.

II

everything else is unproven.

deep, light, rem – a ring or a watch on your wrist guesses those stages from movement and pulse. against real sleep-lab measurement, consumer wearables get the stages wrong a large share of the time, and the "sleep score" built on top of them has no clinical standard behind it. it's a number that looks precise. it isn't. and it is not something you can act on – you can't choose to have more deep sleep tonight.

III

a steady rhythm and enough hours.

the two things sleep research keeps coming back to are simple: regularity and duration. going to bed and getting up at roughly the same time – on free nights too – and giving yourself enough hours in between. sleep regularity is now linked to health outcomes as strongly as sleep length itself. no supplement, no hack, no sound machine comes close. that's the whole method.

IV

your nights are private.

what you write about your sleep is about as personal as it gets. luna has no account, no analytics and no third parties. your journal syncs through your own iCloud – and is never sold. nobody at luna can read it, and nobody ever will.

V

one person, not a feed.

the thing that actually keeps a rhythm steady isn't data – it's company. in luna you can pair with someone you trust, see your rhythms side by side, and say goodnight with a single tap. quiet accountability, no leaderboard, no streaks to break.

a journal for orthosomnia

put the number down.
write the night down.

two times, every morning. nothing else.

luna measures nothing. each morning you note when your light went out and when you woke up. over the weeks it shows you how steady your rhythm is – and how far your free nights drift from your working ones. no grade, no score, no ai. you will never be told how well you slept, because that is yours to know.

luna is a journal, not a medical device. if sleep troubles persist, please talk to a doctor.
